Played with an old-time style technique, the Goodtime Artisan Americana is reminiscent of banjos from a period when larger rims were more prevalent which makes the 12” a great setup for playing old time music. A traditional 11” banjo with a frosted top head has a far brighter sound and will “cut” more. Since the combination of the Grand 12” rim and the Renaissance head make for a wonderfully laid-back sound in comparison, the Americana lends itself perfectly for musicians looking to use the banjo to back up a vocalist or another instrument, instead of playing the lead instrument role.

Deering’s Goodtime banjos boast a distinctive all-maple tonewood construction from top to bottom. A 3-ply premium violin-grade maple rim grants this Goodtime banjo a tone that skates between bright, crisp snap and the warmer tones one expects from a 12-inch-rim open-back banjo. Plus, the standard Goodtime series’ lack of a tone ring produces a pleasantly woody response, flush with rich overtones. It’s all finished with a slender “D”-shaped hard-rock maple neck — a timber so stout and stable that it doesn’t require additional reinforcement or a truss rod to remain straight as an arrow! Lastly, a hand-rubbed polyurethane with a carnauba wax finish supplies a slick, almost frictionless feel when sliding around the neck.
